Coatbridge Rovers’ Under 13s team firing on all cylinders and continue to make club history.
Wednesday the First of September saw Coatbridge Rovers FC’s Girls Academy Under 13’s squad making history as they become the first female squad to play in the Central League Cup and won a hard-fought battle with fellow Sam Kerr League participants, Milngavie FC by one goal to nil in Auchenhowie, Milngavie.
In the evening fixture, Rovers travelled to Milngavie’s new home at Milngavie & Bearsden Sports Club – a fantastic facility bustling with youth activity which was a wonderful sight to see, following the 2 years that youth sport has endured. A goal in the first half from Kodie following a wonderfully flighted corner from midfielder, Marysa, put Rovers ahead but Milngavie showed that they are opponents not to be doubted as they peppered the Rovers’ goal with shots on target. New goalkeeper, Emily showed just how much she can be relied on with a stellar performance which rightfully earned her the player of the game. Emily’s perseverance with training inside and outside the club really showed off and kept Rovers in the game.
Rovers had their fair share of shots on goal with Ellie denied by the woodwork and Liliana, hungry for her first competitive goal, denied on several occasions by the competent Milngavie goalkeeper.
Rovers go on to the second round of the competition, another historical moment for the club, and will face either West Park Girls or Falkirk 12s at home on Saturday the 18th of September in what is sure to be a great match for the spectator.
